Lucid’s (LCID) +450 mile range Gravity SUV will use new Panasonic EV batteries

Lucid (LCID) confirmed that its new Gravity SUV will provide up to 450 miles of EPA-estimated driving range. Powered by Panasonic’s high-performance EV batteries, Lucid promises the Gravity is “a groundbreaking new class of SUV.” Here’s what you need to know about Lucid’s new EV.

Lucid Gravity SUV will use Panasonic’s new EV batteries

Lucid’s new Gravity Grand Touring model will be powered by Panasonic Energy’s lithium-ion EV battery cells to deliver “a previously impossible combination of outstanding range, performance and interior space.”

The high-performance EV batteries unleash a whopping EPA-estimated range of up to 450 miles. The battery pack is up to 40% smaller, enabling more driving range and interior room. This is also a big step forward in using fewer materials.

Lucid’s new SUV has “the interior space and practicality of a full-size SUV,” including up to 120 cubic feet of cargo space. To put that into perspective, a 2025 Ford Explorer has up to 85.5 cubic feet of total cargo space.

Panasonic’s latest battery cells (2170 cylindrical lithium-ion) offer an energy density of over 800 Wh/L, an “industry-wide achievement.” Lucid’s Gravity electric SUV will be one of the first vehicles to feature the new battery cells at scale.

The “Lucid Gravity is the first SUV that does not force customers to compromise,” according to CEO Peter Rawlinson.

Lucid worked with Panasonic, specifically designing the cells for maximum range, safety, performance, and longevity.

I have 2.5 years left on my KIA EV9 lease. This car will be in may garage when that expires. I love the KIA but this has to be the best vehicle being made right now. Lucid is the Standard at this point. That may change in 30 months but for now I love the tech, the quality and the styling. I really want to see these guys produce a volume vehicle that gets its price into range for the middle class. They will probably never produce a sub 30 vehicles but that’s okay. ICE is on its way to a slow agonizing death.

The milestone is the latest in an evolving partnership that began in 2022. Lucid has secured several multi-year agreements with Panasonic as it aims to establish itself as a true luxury EV maker.

After its fourth straight quarter with record deliveries, Lucid announced on Monday that it delivered 10,241 vehicles in 2024, up 70% from 2023 (6,001).

Lucid began building Gravity Grand Touring models at its manufacturing plant in Arizona in December 2024. The Grand Touring trim starts at $94,900. Later this year, Lucid will begin producing Gravity Touring models, which will have a starting price of $79,900. The Touring trim will also be powered by Panasonic’s latest EV battery cells.

Panasonic currently produces battery cells in Japan, but it is expected to move production to its new Kansas facility soon.
