Lensrentals reveals its ‘Most Rented New Products of 2021’

If you’re wondering what new products have proven to be most popular throughout 2021, Lensrentals has you covered. As it’s done in the past, Lensrentals has published a list revealing what products released in 2021 were the most rented by photographers and cinematographers around the world.

As was expected, last year’s list proved to be ‘a bit of an anomaly,’ mostly due to the industry-wide chaos caused by COVID-19. Thankfully, this year brought some semblance of normalcy wherein Lensrentals ‘was able to rebuild some of the momenta it had built from previous years.’

As has been the case with many rental houses over the past few years, video equipment proved to be the most-rented gear. Canon’s C70 RF-mount cinema camera took home the number one spot with Sony’s FX3 cinema camera and Sony’s a1 stills camera rounding out second and third, respectively.

Canon’s C70 is the company’s first Cinema EOS camera to adopt the company’s newest lens system, the RF mount.

According to Lensrentals, the Canon C70 took first place by ‘a pretty wide margin’ and ‘is most notably impressive because it really further solidifies the industry’s response to Canon’s RF lens mount.’ Sony equally impressed with its new compact FX3 taking home second place and its a1 stills camera taking home third place. The a1 is notable because it’s the first of only three stills cameras in the top 10, with Nikon’z Z7 II and Leica’s Q2 Monochrom being the other two at 7th and 9th, respectively. Below is the full list of the ‘Top Rented New Products for 2021’:

Lensrentals says it will be posting a follow-up article wherein it will take ‘a deeper dive into all the rentals from 2021 – not just new products.’ Lensrentals says it will ‘look through the data, and find which systems are growing in market share, and which ones are shrinking, as we look forward to 2022.’ We’ll be sure to share that data when it’s released next week.
