Inspiring Photos by Sony World Photography Awards 2022 Pro Finalists

Sony World Photographer Awards

The World Photography Organization has revealed the finalists and shortlisted photographers in the Professional competition for the Sony World Photography Awards 2022. This year, the Professional competition received over 156,000 images — the highest number of entries in the history of the awards.

Record-Breaking Number of Professional Photo Entries

The coveted Sony World Photography Awards attract photographers from all over the world — 61 countries and 211 territories, to be precise. Earlier this month, the World Photography Organization announced the winners submitted to the Open competition, but now finalists and shortlisted talents have been revealed for the 2022 Professional competition, running for the 15th year.

“The Sony World Photography Awards 2022 finalists and shortlist are as diverse, challenging and, I believe, as powerful as ever,” says Chair of the Jury, Mike Trow, on behalf of the jury.

“The standard of work in the Professional competition surprised me in its depth and variety. At points, we all may have felt that the ongoing Covid crisis meant that the world had shut down but when reviewing these projects it is clear nothing could be further from the truth. To have the chance to see so much work from across the world is both humbling and energizing.”

The selected finalists go on to compete to be the winner of their category and if they are successful, they then go on to be considered for the Photographer of the Year title, which will be announced on April 12, 2022. The competition will also reveal the overall winners in the Student, Youth, Open, and Professional competition.

A selection of images by finalists and shortlisted photographers will see their work exhibited at Somerset House, an arts center in London, United Kingdom, from April 13 through May 2. The full list of finalists and shortlisted photographers can be found on the World Photography Organization website.
