Apple paused work on iOS 18, macOS 15, watchOS 11, and tvOS 18, revealed Mark Gurman in his report for Bloomberg. The delay in development was needed as the software team was tasked with addressing bugs in current-gen software for iPhones, iPads, wearables, TVs and Macs.
Employees at Cupertino were told to stop working on future versions, and engineers had to re-focus on fixing current flaws and boosting software performance.
Craig Federighi, Senior VP and chief of software at Apple has been working in the past few years to make sure software bugs are addressed, meaning some future products need to be put on hold. Sources that spoke to Gurman said the software engineering team under Federighi found too many bugs that were overlooked during internal testing.
The pause will only last several days, and expectations are Apple will be back on track with development by the end of this week. Last month, the first M1 versions of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS 15 were completed, but further development was paused.
The iOS 17.4 version is expected in March as the final major update for the current versions.
