Google ‘wireless device’ hits FCC, possibly ‘sabrina’ dongle or ‘prince’ speaker

A new piece of Google hardware passed through the Federal Communications Commission this evening. There are not too many details to glean from the filing, but it’s possibly the rumored “sabrina” Android TV-powered dongle or Google’s next “prince” speaker.

The GXCA6 model name does not fit in too closely with any previous numbering schemes. It does start with a “G” — which follows Pixel phones and Pixel Buds — and not an “H” for Smart Displays, speakers, and the Stadia Controller.

Only three other Google products have been classified as a “wireless device”: 2nd-generation Jacquard Tag, Google Clips, and the Daydream View controller.

Basic specs reveal the presence of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, while the FCC ID provides one hint. “Printed at the bottom of the device,” the oval shape matches the “sabrina” Android TV dongle that we first reported about, and then was subsequently leaked:

However, it does not line up with past Chromecast FCC IDs: A4R-H2G2-42 (1st-gen), NC2-6A5 (2nd-gen), NC2-6A5-B (3rd-gen), and NC2-6A5-D (Ultra). Additionally, dongles do not really have a “bottom.”

The next likely candidate is the upcoming Nest-branded speaker that will presumably replace the out of stock Google Home. Codenamed “prince,” we exclusively reported about this device last month.

If GXCA6 is a speaker, it then represents a model number departure. Last year’s Nest Mini was H2C, while previous devices include H0ME (Google Home), H0A (Home Mini), H0B (Home Max), H1A (Nest Hub), and H2A (Nest Hub Max).
