Google has announced Personal Intelligence in Gemini, answering a top request by users where one can now personalize Gemini by connecting Google apps with a single tap. The feature essentially connects information from apps like Gmail and Google Photos securely to make “Gemini uniquely helpful.”
According to Google, Personal Intelligence in Gemini has two core strengths: “reasoning across complex sources and retrieving specific details from, say, an email or photo to answer your question. It often combines these, working across text, photos and video to provide uniquely tailored answers.”
Google outlined how Personal Intelligence in Gemini is being built around user privacy, as the company gradually rolls out the feature to select subscribers. The capability allows Gemini to deliver more relevant, context-aware responses by securely referencing information from connected Google apps – but only if users explicitly choose to enable it.
Personal Intelligence in Gemini is turned off by default. Users must manually opt in, decide which apps to connect, and can disable the feature at any time. When enabled, Gemini can access data from selected sources such as Gmail or Google Photos to respond to specific requests or perform tasks. Since this information already resides within Google’s secure systems, users do not need to upload or share sensitive data externally to personalise their experience, the company noted.

Google says transparency is a core part of the system. Gemini is designed to explain or reference the connected sources it uses when generating responses, allowing users to verify the information. If a response feels inaccurate or overly personalised, users can correct it instantly, regenerate answers without personalisation, or switch to temporary chats that avoid using connected data altogether.
The company has also put safeguards in place around sensitive topics. While Gemini avoids making assumptions about areas such as health or personal relationships, it can discuss such information if users directly request it. Google emphasises that Personal Intelligence in Gemini does not train directly on private content from Gmail or Photos. Instead, limited data such as user prompts and model responses – with personal information filtered or obscured – may be used to improve the system over time.
Google acknowledges that the feature is still in beta and may occasionally produce inaccurate or overly confident responses, especially when interpreting personal preferences or life changes. Users are encouraged to provide feedback through in-app tools to help refine the system as development continues.
Access to Personal Intelligence in Gemini is rolling out in the U.S. to eligible Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers, with availability expanding gradually across web, Android, and iOS. The company has confirmed plans to extend the feature to more regions and eventually to free users, while also integrating it into AI Mode in Search. For now, the feature is limited to personal Google accounts and is not available for Workspace or education users.
