Fujifilm has announced two new prime lenses for its APS-C format X-mount – the XF 23mm F1.4 R LM WR and XF 33mm F1.4 R LM WR, covering equivalent focal lengths of 35mm and 50mm respectively.
The lenses are nominally similar in terms of construction, each comprising 15 elements in ten groups, with two aspherical and three extra-low dispersion (ED) elements. The aspherical elements help maintain cross-frame consistency at wide apertures, while the ED elements significantly reduce chromatic aberrations relative to previous, similar designs. Both feature nine, rounded aperture blades for circular out-of-focus highlights, and a linear AF motor for fast, silent autofocus. They’re similar in size and weight, although the XF 33mm is the lighter of the two 360 g (12.7 oz) compared to 375 g (13.2 oz) for the XF 22mm). The XF 22mm has the advantage of a substantially closer minimum focus distance though – 19cm (7.5″) compared to 30cm (~12 in).
Fujifilm claims that both lenses will offer higher resolution than the company’s first generation of F1.4 primes
Both lenses are weather-sealed (that’s the meaning of the ‘WR’ in their names) and feature dedicated aperture rings with ‘A’ position locks, and 58mm filter threads. Fujifilm claims that both lenses will offer minimal focus breathing and higher resolution than the company’s first generation of F1.4 primes. Interestingly, these lenses also project larger image circles for better stabilization performance with in-body image stabilization systems.
The Fujifilm XF 23mm F1.4 R LM WR and XF 33mm F1.4 R LM WR will be available in late November and late September, respectively, for MSRPs of $899.95 (for the XF 23mm) and $799.95 (for the XF 33mm).
