Fujifilm Announces Lack of Supply and Shipping Delays for the GFX100S

The demand for Fujifilm’s latest medium format camera, the newly-announced GFX100S, appears to have exceeded the company’s expectations as it has published a “notice of delay” on its website.

Published in Japanese, Fujifilm has stated that demand has exceeded the initial supply of cameras, and as a result, shipping will be delayed.

Below is the notice, translated directly from Japanese (the text was not adjusted from the direct translation so it might read roughly):

Dear customers

We would like to express our sincere gratitude for your continued patronage of FUJIFILM products.

The mirrorless digital camera “FUJIFILM GFX100S” scheduled to be released in late February has received more reservations than expected, and the number of preparations has exceeded.

Therefore, it may take some time before the ordered product is delivered.

We will do our best to meet the quantity of reservations as much as possible, but we appreciate your understanding.

When the GFX100S was first announced, the company stated that it would begin shipping in March, and the information in the published notice seems to be in line with that: a late February release from the factory would put it in the hands of dealers by the first or second week of March.

Currently, that timeline appears to be intact. Adorama lists the camera as beginning to ship out on March 11, but it is unclear how many pre-orders will qualify for fulfillment at that time. Fujifilm has not stated the number of units it is able to fulfill nor clarified how long of a delay should be expected before stock levels are normal.

You can still pre-order the GFX100S here, and hopefully, the limited stock of camera bodies is not as severe as this notice makes it seem.
