Fujifilm announces Instax Mini Link 2 smartphone printer with new frames, modes and a neat drawing feature

Fujifilm has announced the Instax Mini Link 2 smartphone printer. It features numerous new features, including customizable frames and image color modes. Mini Link 2 also includes INSTAXAiR. The app allows the user to hold the Mini Link 2 in the air and use it to ‘draw’ in the air and apply painted effects directly onto a print.

‘Mini Link 2 encourages image makers to express themselves creatively through their prints,’ said Bing Liem, president, Imaging Division, Fujifilm North America Corporation. ‘With highly innovative, fun, and interactive features like INSTAXAiR, we’re establishing new ways to connect with and inspire INSTAX users as they create their images.’

Let’s take a closer look at INSTAXAiR. Fujifilm writes, ‘The INSTAXAiR App feature allows users of the Mini Link 2 to add graphics to their prints, including bubbles, petals, neon, spray paint, or a glitter look by simply holding the Mini Link 2, pressing the feature button on top, and aiming the side LED to draw in the air.’ Whatever you draw in the air appears on the print preview in the app. If you like the look, you can apply your drawing to your Mini Link 2 print. You can even record a video of the drawing and share it with others via a printable QR code that appears on the print. When you scan the QR code, you can view, download and share the video.

Mini Link 2 transfers an image from a smartphone and begins printing in about 15 seconds. The printer supports continuous printing and can print about 100 Instax prints per charge when using Bluetooth.

When using the Instax Mini Link 2 app, you can pick from various frames to overlay on your images. There are also two available color modes. Instax-Rich promises’ deep, enhanced colors’, and the Instax-Natural mode offers ‘a more original look.’ Users can also apply artistic filters and adjust brightness, contrast and saturation before printing their photos. Using the app’s collage feature, you can print up to eight photos on a single Instax print.

In addition to smartphone compatibility, the Mini Link 2 works with the Fujifilm X-S10 mirrorless X series camera. You can send photos from the X-S10 directly to the Mini Link 2.

The Fujifilm Instax Mini Link 2 is available in three colorways: soft pink, clay white and space blue. It will be available to purchase beginning on June 22, for $99.95 USD ($129.99 CAD).

Alongside the Mini Link 2, Fujifilm is also releasing a new Instax Mini Spray Art instant film. It features a colorful rainbow spray design that reflects light. The new film will be available on June 22,and cost around $15 per pack.
