Epic Games Store/Fortnite to debut on iOS in UK in 2025 with new competition law

Epic Games said it will open the Epic Games Store and Fortnite on Apple’s iOS in the United Kingdom in the second half of 2025 thanks to a new competition law.

The Epic Games Store and Fortnite have been missing on iOS ever since Epic Games sued Apple for alleged antitrust violations in 2020. Since that time, Epic largely lost the antitrust case, though it did win one small point where the U.S. courts deemed it illegal for Apple to stop developers on iOS from promoting of alternative web stores to users, particularly when it meant lower prices were possible for consumers off the app store.

Epic also sued Google and won its antitrust case in a lower court ruling. But that decision will be subject to the appeals process. In the meantime, the European Union has passed the Digital Markets Act, which holds “gatekeeper” platforms accountable to fairness rules when it comes to allowing third-party web stores or app stores for selling games that are also sold on the major platforms.

The U.K. has also has its own competition law in place as well, and that’s what Epic Games is excited about.
