Cosina Launches the Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f/1.2 for Fuji X-Mount

Cosina has launched the Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f/1.2 for Fujifilm X-mount that it describes as a double-Gauss type configuration with a symmetrical optical arrangement that provides smooth, large bokeh.

Designed exclusively for Fujifilm X-mount, Cosina touts the Nokton 35mm f/1.2 as a lens that will provide high resolving power from edge to edge without depending on the optical correction functionality of the camera while also suppressing the occurrence of color cast. It is a simple eight-element in six group design that leverages a near-symmetrical double-Gauss type layout, which means it consists of two back-to-back Gauss lenses — a design with a positive meniscus lens on the object side and a negative one on the image side. It also has a 12-bladed aperture to allow for smooth round bokeh. It has a minimum focus distance of 11.8-inches (0.3 meters), a 44-degree angle of view, and a 46mm front filter size.

The lens is small and light, weighing only 196 grams (6.9 ounces) and measuring 59.6mm x 39.8mm (2.35 x 1.57 inches).

The Nokton 35mm f/1.2 is equipped with electronic contacts to allow for full communication with the camera such as EXIF information, focus check, shooting distance with interlocking display, and can be used in tandem with Fujifilm cameras that feature in-body image stabilization and parallax correction (compatible with the X-Pro3).

Electrical contact compatibility is only compatible with the Fujifilm X-H1, X-T4, X-T3, X-T2, X-Pro3, X-S10, X-E4, and X-T30. Older models like the X-Pro2, X-Pro1, X-T20, X-A7, X-E2, and X-M1 are not supported. A full list of supported cameras can be found on Cosina’s website.

It is a fully manual focus lens, but Cosina says that it uses an all-metal, high precision helicoid unit to give the lens a solid feeling of torque and smooth operation. The result, according to the company, is a manual focus lens that allows for delicate, precise focus adjustments. Aperture is controlled through a manual aperture ring that is directly connected to the opening and closing of the aperture blades with one-third step clicks for precise control.

Below are a few sample images provided by Cosina taken with the lens:

The Cosina Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f/1.2 for Fuji X-Mount is set to launch in August and will retail for 78,000 yen, or about $700.
