Cosina announces updated ‘Vintage Line’ Voigtlander 21mm F3.5 lens, set for December release

Cosina has announced (translated) its latest lens, the Voigtlander Color-Skopar Vintage Line 21mm F3.5 Aspherical Type II, a manual prime lens for Leica M mount camera systems.

As its name suggests, the lens features a vintage design and is made entirely of metal, including the aperture and focus ring, both of which forgo the usual knurled design for a lever-style grip. The lens is constructed of nine elements in eight groups, including a single low-dispersion element (new to the Type II lens) and a single aspherical element.

Other features include a ten-blade aperture diaphragm, a minimum focusing distance of 50cm (19.7”) and a 39mm front filter thread. The lens measures 52mm (2”) in diameter, 30mm (1.2”) long and weighs 220g (7.8oz), 40g (1.4oz) more than its ‘Type I’ predecessor.

No definitive release date has been provided for the Color-Skopar Vintage Line 21mm F3.5 Aspherical Type II, but Digital Camera Info has reported it will be available in December 2021 for around $750. It will come in both silver and black colorways. For comparison, the current Type I version of this lens currently retails for $700.
