Cosina announces new 28mm F2 Ultron ‘Vintage Line’ lenses

Cosina has announced the release of the Voigtlander 28mm F2 Ultron Vintage Line lenses for Leica M mount camera systems. As with the other lenses in the growing Voigtlander Vintage Line series, the 28mm F2 Ultron lens seeks to combine modern optical performance in a vintage-looking package.

The lens comes in two models: Type I and Type II. The only notable difference between the two is the design of the focus ring, which is a single lever on the Type I and a more thumb grip style notch on the Type II model. As a result, the Type I weighs 190g (6.7oz), while the Type II weighs in at 230g (8.1oz). The Type II model is also available in both black and silver varieties, while the Type I is limited to black.

Both models feature the same optical construction, consisting of 10 elements in 7 groups. Other features include a 10-blade aperture diaphragm, an aperture range of F2 through F22, a minimum focusing distance of 50cm (19.7″) and an all-metal helicoid focus mechanism.

The lenses are set to retail for around $1,000 when they’re released next month.
