Canon RF 14-35mm F4L IS USM sample gallery

The Canon RF 14-35mm F4L IS USM is a compact, medium-aperture wideangle zoom lens for the company’s mirrorless RF mount. Offering an advanced optical makeup, and high build quality despite its lightweight build, the 14-35mm slots in beneath the pricier – and brighter – 15-35mm F2.8 in Canon’s lineup. So how does it perform?

We’ve been shooting with a production sample for a few days, and you can view our gallery from the links above and below. Our initial impressions are positive, and while it’s clear that the lens benefits from distortion correction at its widest focal lengths, and vignetting correction at all focal lengths, image quality is high, on both the EOS R6 and EOS R5 bodies that we shot with.

Note that for this gallery, we used a beta build of Adobe Camera Raw to correct for distortion, as the lens requires it. Since Canon does not include any lens correction metadata in its Raw files (that we can find, digging through the EXIF), users will be at the mercy of 3rd party profiles for all RF-mount aberration corrections. We have not corrected for vignetting or lateral chromatic aberration, so that you can assess its extent at various focal lengths and apertures.
