Canon Australia recalling ‘very small number’ of EOS R5C units due to autofocus issues

Canon Australia has posted a notice on its website issuing a recall for some early EOS R5C units, which are said to contain a manufacturing defect that causes the camera to go in and out of focus when using autofocus for video shooting.

Canon Australia says its ‘aware that a very small number of units have been delivered to customers prior to this issue being identified’ and are asking consumers who received their EOS R5C units ‘on or before March 21, 2022 and are experiencing this issue to organize a return of the unit from the retailer from which it was purchased from. It doesn’t appear as though Canon has any particular range of serial numbers specifically affected by this issue, so if you have an EOS R5C in hand, just stay vigilant.

We have contacted Canon Inc. to confirm whether or not units in other regions are affected at this time and will update this article accordingly when we receive a response. Below is the entire statement from Canon Australia.
