A new version of CYME’s Avalanche application that converts image catalogs from one software brand to another has been introduced. This latest version now allows Aperture and Lightroom users to translate their current image collections for compatibility with Skylum’s Luminar AI.
The company says that V1.3 of Avalanche will import not only the original images themselves but also all the edits, versions, albums and organizational tags applied to them. Luminar 4 image catalogs can also be migrated to Luminar AI along with all the effects attached to them. The application works with catalogs created in Aperture 3.6, Lightroom 7 and Luminar 4.2. A version for Phase One’s Capture One is also said to be ‘coming soon’.
Avalanche is a macOS-only application and requires OS 10.14. It costs $59 for the Luminar version, or Avalanche Unlimited costs $119 and allows conversion to and from all the mentioned brands of catalog. For more information see the Avalanche website.
Press release:
CYME announces the availability of a brand new version of Avalanche for Luminar that adds compatibility with Luminar AI.
Designed for photographers who have adopted Luminar 4 or Luminar AI as their photo cataloguing and editing solution, Avalanche for Luminar transforms existing Aperture, Lightroom (and soon CaptureOne) photo catalogs into Luminar catalogs ready to be opened and edited.
Like all versions of Avalanche, Avalanche for Luminar transfers photo catalogs from one application to another while retaining the changes and edits made in the original editing software. It also preserves the organization of the catalogs, thanks to the migration of albums and tags.
But starting with the brand new version 1.3, Avalanche for Luminar goes one step further, taking migration to a whole new level if you choose to migrate a Luminar 4 catalog to Luminar AI. In this case, Avalanche will migrate all the complex effects applied in Luminar 4 to reproduce exactly the same results in Luminar AI.
“When Skylum released its new Luminar AI software last December, we received a flood of requests to create a bridge between Luminar 4 and Luminar AI,” says Claudia Zimmer, co-founder of CYME. “Our team has been working on restoring compatibility between the two software packages.”
System Requirements:
Avalanche for Luminar and Avalanche Unlimited require macOS 10.14 or later and run fine on Catalina.
Avalanche is compatible with Aperture catalogs from version 3.6, Lightroom catalogs from version 7, and Luminar catalogs from version 4.2. You need around 145 MB of free space, 4Gb of memory (8Gb recommended) and enough space to accommodate the converted libraries.
A working copy of Apple Aperture or Lightroom is not required to migrate libraries as Avalanche opens those libraries natively.
Pricing and Availability
Avalanche for Luminar is $59 USD and is available exclusively through the developer store. Avalanche Unlimited is $119 USD and is available through the developer store.
