The brand with four rings is reviving the quirky A2 for its new entry-level EV. Audi promises the A2 e-tron will offer a new entry point for premium EVs. Here’s what to expect.

The Audi A2 e-tron will be a new entry-level EV hatch

It’s official. Audi’s CEO, Gernot Döllner, confirmed on Tuesday that the A2 e-tron will make its debut this fall, promising it will make “entry into the Audi world easier and more relevant than ever.”

The A2 is making a comeback after an over 25-year hiatus as Audi’s new entry-level EV. The A2 e-tron will sit below the Q4 e-tron in the luxury brands lineup, with prices expected to start at less than $40,000 (£30,000).

“We’ve listened. Our customers want electric mobility that impresses in everyday life,” Döllner said, adding that “The A2 e-tron is our promise to deliver exactly that – efficient, compact, and confident.”

Audi said the entry-level EV will open up access to premium electric mobility and will “rejuvenate” its lineup. The A2 e-tron will be produced at its Ingolsstadt headquarters, joining the Q6 e-tron. Döllner said by adding another fully electric model in Ingolstadt, “we are securing jobs and delivering electric mobility ‘made in Germany.’”

Ahead of its world premiere in the fall, Audi previewed the silhouette for the first time. The teaser reveals a crossover-hatch-like design rather than the A2’s infamous egg-shaped look (shown above).

Recent spy shots from AudiClubNA offered a closer look at the design and a sneak peek of the interior. Like the teaser, you can see the electric A2 e-tron features a crossover-hatchback profile while still paying homage to its predecessor.

According to AutoCar, the A2 e-tron will share the same MEB platform with the VW ID.3. It will likely be available with similar battery packs.

The ID.3 is offered with 58 kWh or 79 kWh battery packs, providing WLTP ranges of about 265 miles (426 km) and 373 miles (600 km), respectively.

Audi’s engineers said that the entry-level EV is aimed at filling the gap left by the BMW i3, which is also set to return in electric form. Ahead of its March 18 debut, BMW accidentally leaked the new i3 EV design on Monday (see it here).

With over 20 new models launched in the past two years, Audi said it has the youngest portfolio among its competitors. In addition to the Q9, the new A2 e-tron will “strategically perfect” the lineup in 2026 as Audi’s most affordable EV.
