Apple reportedly imports budget iPhone to India for testing, along with two iPad models

According to a report from 91Mobiles, three Apple devices totaling seven model numbers have been imported into India ahead of Apple’s spring event, seemingly for testing purposes. This is according to unnamed industry sources. The three devices include a budget iPhone, a budget iPad, and the iPad Air, possibly a refreshed model.

Among the seven SKUs, three of them correspond with an unreleased iPhone, assumed to be Apple’s rumored third-generation iPhone SE. The iPhone model was imported under the model numbers A2595, A2783, and A2784 and said to cost ~INR 23,000 (~$306) before import taxes.

Next up, an iPad Air is mentioned as a possibility with model numbers A2588 and A2589 and speculated to be a refreshed iPad Air model. This model is priced between ~INR 37,500 (~$500) and ~INR 52,300 (~$697). Two other iPad model numbers A2757 and A2761 may correspond with a budget iPad that’s priced at around INR 22,500 (~$300).

Again, all the prices mentioned don’t include potential import taxes/duties so think of them more as ballpark prices. Reports of a 5G version of the iPhone SE swirled last month with an estimated launch of April or May and an A15 Bionic chipset. It’s expected to arrive with a refreshed iPad Air.

These devices are supposedly being tested in India, but it’s not enough evidence to confirm whether Apple will bring them to India for sure.
