Android 12 November security patch rolling out to Google Pixel, factory images & OTAs live

The first update to Android 12 is rolling out today with the November security patch for the Pixel 3a, Pixel 4, Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, Pixel 5, Pixel 5a, Pixel 6, and Pixel 6 Pro.

There are 21 issues resolved in the Android 12 November patch dated 2021-11-01 and 17 for 2021-11-05. Meanwhile, there is a third patch date — 2021-11-06 — that addresses a kernel vulnerability (CVE-2021-1048) that “could lead to a local escalation of privilege due to a use after free.” Google says it “may be under limited, targeted exploitation.”

The dedicated bulletin for Google devices lists 10 security fixes and 11 functional updates. Pixel 6 and 6 Pro owners already received Android 12’s November security patch last week, but Google is only detailing what’s fixed today.

This month’s update is particularly complicated in that there are three sets of builds: Global (all), Verizon and Verizon MVNOs (Pixel 3a – 6 Pro), and Australia (Telstra, Optus, Vodafone AU, Pixel 4 – 5).

There is no update for the Pixel 3, which is nearing end of life (EOL) status, and we’re reaching out to Google for confirmation.
